Must Do Maintenance Checklist

Home maintenance isn’t restricted to repairs; in fact certain tasks done regularly may prevent things from breaking in the first place. Here is a check list that every homeowner should do regularly.

• Test your garage door monthly to ensure that it reverses when it hits an obstruction or when its sensor is interrupted.

• At least once a year vacuum the dryers exhaust duct.  If its plastic it should be replaced with a sheet metal duct it could cause a fire.

• Replace furnace filters quarterly or as recommended by the manufacture.

• Test GFCI outlets monthly. Press the test button and use a voltage tester to make sure the power goes off.

• Clean leaves and debris from the condenser of a central air conditioner seasonally.

• Once a year, vacuum the refrigerator coils.

• Annually have the fireplace chimney inspected and cleaned.

• Annually inspect windows and door caulking and weather stripping.

• Replace your batteries in your smoke detectors yearly. If your smoke detectors are wired they have back up batteries that should be replaced.
